Iran-Qatar project to face off in Zurich

Iran-Qatar joint cinematic project ‘Disappearance’ has become official selection to vie at the 13th Zurich Film Festival, Switzerland.

‘Disappearance’, which screened in the Horizons section of 74th Venice International Film Festival, will vie against thirteen other movies from countries such as the US, France and the UK to win a prize at Zurich film festival.

The flick will attend the International Feature Film section of the event which sees fourteen first, second and third directorial works compete for the Golden Eye Award.

Iranian actors Pedram Ansari, Sadaf Asgari, Mohammad Heidari, Amirreza Ranjbaran, Sahar Sotoudeh, and Nafiseh Zare star in ‘Disappearance’.

Penned by Ali Asgari together with his writing partner Farnoush Samadi, ‘Disappearance’ narrates the story of two young lovers who go from hospital to hospital in search of help on a cold night in Tehran. Soon they will have to face the tragic consequences of their youthful inexperience.

‘Disappearance’ is the first feature-length film by Asgari, whose short films have competed in Venice and Cannes. The project was developed in the Cannes Cinefondation Residence and received a grant from the Doha Film Institute. It was produced in Iran.

The 13th Zurich International film festival runs from September 28 to October 8 in Switzerland.
